• Private Alexander T. Matei, 18, of Rolling Meadows graduated from United States Marine Corps boot camp at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego.

Private Matei successfully completed 13 weeks of intensive basic training at MCRD San Diego as one of 76 recruits in Training Platoon 1043. Following 10 days home on leave and two weeks of Recruiter's Assistant duty he reported to Camp Pendleton in California for one month at Military Combat Training before attending his Military Occupation Specialty school in Pensacola, Fla.

• Army Pvt. Justin E. Bachta graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.

Bachta is the son of John Bachta of Hanover Park and Kathy Breit of Paoli, Ind. The private is a 2007 graduate of Larkin High School, Elgin.
