Elgin police investigate shooting

A 21-year-old Elgin man died as a result of a shooting that took place late Thursday night.

Oscar Hernandez, of the 500 block of Lucille Avenue, was shot in the neck at about 10 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

He was apparently shot near his residence. Police responded to a call on Lucille Avenue, which is just east of Villa Street.

Hernandez was pronounced dead at 2:50 a.m. at the medical examiner's office.

Elgin police have not released details in the case that is under investigation.
