Arlington Heights announces holiday traffic plan
The Arlington Heights Police Department has issued traffic delay warnings in connection with fireworks at Arlington Park and July Frontier Days events this weekend.
• Fireworks at Arlington Park on Saturday, July 3, require admission to racing. Tickets can be ordered online for $8, a $2 savings over the admission at the gate. Children 17 and under and parking are free. Track officials recommend arriving before 6 p.m., and the gates will be closed at 6:45 p.m. Racing starts at 4 p.m., and there will also be live music. It is likely the event will sell out. Visit arlingtonpark.com.
• On Sunday, July 4, Frontier Stampede Run. The Stampede will concentrate in the neighborhoods around Recreation Park, 500 E. Miner St. Runners will be crossing Kensington Road, Euclid Avenue and Oakton Streets between Arlington Heights Road and Wilshire Avenue, resulting in temporary stoppage of traffic going east and west on those streets. The run kicks off at 7:30 a.m. and is usually concluded by 10 a.m. Drivers should try and avoid those east/west streets (Kensington, Euclid and Oakton).
• On Monday, July 5, Arlington Heights Independence Day parade. Street closures begin at 8 a.m., and the parade usually runs until noon. The parade participants stage at St. Peters Lutheran Church, 111 W. Olive Street and on Oakton Street, resulting in Oakton's being closed to traffic from Arlington Heights Road west to Walnut Avenue. The parade travels from St. Peters east on Oakton to Dunton Avenue, and then south. Dunton will be closed to all traffic from Oakton to Northwest Highway at 9 a.m. As the parade travels south it crosses Euclid Avenue, which will also be closed between Arlington Heights Road and Walnut Avenue from approximately 9:30 a.m. to the conclusion of the parade. The parade continues to Miner Street where it turns east and crosses Arlington Heights Road. Anyone traveling on Arlington Heights Road could be subject to significant delays before they are able to travel north or south on Arlington Heights Road. The parade concludes on Miner Street several blocks east of Arlington Heights Road. This area should be avoided completely because all the parade participants will be there.
