Fielders complete first sweep
The Lake County Fielders earned their first sweep of a three-game series with a 10-8 victory over the Winnipeg Goldeyes on Wednesday at the team's temporary home, Carthage College in Kenosha, Wis.
The Fielders trailed 8-6 after the top of the seventh inning but regained the lead with a 3-run homer from Brian McFall in the bottom of the inning. The Fielders added another run in the eighth and the bullpen protected the lead.
Lake County is scheduled for its true home debut in Zion at 4:45 p.m. Friday against the Gary SouthShore RailCats.
LumberKings 4, Cougars 2: Kane County had only 4 hits in a 4-2 loss to against the Clinton LumberKings at Alliant Energy Field.
The Cougars finished their six-game road trip with a 2-4 mark, dropping two of three in both Quad Cities and Clinton. They did end with a 12-11 mark in June, their first winning month of the season.
Cougars starter Rob Gilliam (5-6) suffered 1 rough inning during a quality start, and that became the difference in the game. The right-hander gave up 3 runs in the bottom of the sixth to account for the 4-2 final.
The Cougars (2-4, 34-41) return home to start a six-game homestand at 6:30 p.m. tonight with the opener of a three-game series against the Peoria Chiefs (2-4, 40-35).
T-Bones 6, Flyers 0: Schaumburg couldn't solve Kansas City starter Cody McAllister (4-2) all afternoon and fell 6-0 to Kansas City at Alexian Field.
The T-Bones (24-16) got on the board right off the bat against Schaumburg starter Alain Quijano (1-5) with a Jacob Blackwood 2-run home run into the party deck in the top of the first.
Quijano performed well, pitching into the seventh, allowing 4 earned runs and recording a season-high 11 strikeouts with no walks. But the offense sputtered, collecting just 4 hits off of McAllister and getting just two runners in scoring position the entire game.
The Kansas City starter tossed his first career complete game, shutting out the Flyers and picking up a season-high 10 strikeouts in the process.
The Flyers (14-25) conclude their four-game set with the T-Bones at Alexian Field at 7p.m. today.
• On Tuesday, the Flyers fought back to tie the game at 5-5 with a ninth-inning rally but eventually lost 9-5 in 11 innings to the T-Bones.
The Flyers scored single runs in the sixth and seventh innings but still trailed 5-4 heading into the bottom of the ninth, when Burrus reached on an error and stole second before Travis Brown walked. Joey Gomes put together a tough at-bat against T-Bones closer Franklin Perez and grounded out to first, advancing Burrus and Brown. Richard Mercado bounced out to short, scoring Burrus and tying the game at 5-5.
The T-Bones put up 4 runs on 5 hits in the 11th inning to put the game out of reach.
