Whose job was it to protect us from the oil spill?

All of us expect our government to protect us from everything, from terrorists to unsafe food and medicine. We pay public servants handsomely for this protection.

It has been weeks since the disaster of unstoppable oil leakage into the Gulf of Mexico. Strange, but we do not hear of investigative reporters asking two preliminary questions: 1. What, if any, were our government safety rules for deep water drilling? 2. Who were the public service managers and employees responsible for seeing that these safety rules were followed?

A responsible administration would have the answers for the public in days; not in six months of job destruction.

We the public deserve to know the answers to these two questions promptly because we will ultimately have to pay the price - in taxes and at the pump.
