Elgin Police looking for men who robbed jewelry store on Saturday
Elgin police continue to search for two men who robbed a downtown jewelry store at gunpoint Saturday afternoon.
Officers responded to Shockey Jewelers at 12:02 p.m. on a report of an armed robbery. According to police, two men entered the store and one of them displayed a handgun.
Nobody was injured during the robbery in the 0-99 block of Douglas Avenue, about a block away from the Elgin police station, and the suspects made off with an unknown amount of jewelry.
Because of the ongoing investigation, police were not releasing the nature of the jewelry or its worth. Shockey has done business in Elgin since 1977 and specializes in diamonds and antique jewelry.
The first suspect is described as a Latino man, 25 to 30 years old, with a heavy build and a height of 5 feet 9 inches. He was last seen wearing a white T-shirt, blue jeans and a baseball cap.
Police say the second suspect is a Latino man between 30 to 40 years old with a heavy build. He also was described as standing 5 feet 9 inches.
