Collection growing at library's Prospect Hts. center

Visitors to the new Indian Trails Public Library District Convenience Center in Prospect Heights have a diverse collection from which to choose.

Patrons have more than 2,000 materials at their fingertips to check out. With shelves fully stocked the problem for patrons will be having so many items from which to choose, said Elizabeth Marszalik, division head of materials for Indian Trails Public Library.

"The collection for the Center is exciting," said Marszalik. "Also, what a person cannot find on the shelves can be requested and brought to the Center within days."

The mostly Spanish collection is available in the following formats: hardcovers, paperbacks, magazines, CDs, DVDs, and more. The Center will soon have games as well. The materials come in a variety of languages including English, Korean, Spanish, Hindi, Polish, and Russian.

More than 450 items were circulated during the grand opening. So far, English and Spanish DVDs are the most popular items checked out.

"We are very grateful for the support locally for the Center and the usage of the materials there," said Jennifer Koch, public relations manager.

The public is able to apply for library cards, pay fines and fees online, and have problems cleared from their account. In addition to shelves of new and popular materials, the Center has four walk-up computer stations where the public is able to access the Internet, library databases, and reserve materials.

Patrons can reserve materials from the main library and have them delivered to the Convenience Center for pickup. Patrons may return any materials to the Center whether they were borrowed from the main library or the Center.

The Convenience Center is open 4-8 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturdays.
