That buzzing in your ears is a state plane
The plane buzzing the Greenbrier neighborhood on Memorial Day is an unmarked Illinois State Police plane. This happens every Memorial Day, 4th of July and Labor Day. For three hours I curse it every 2-3 minutes as it turns over my house.
It is used in a speed trap on Route 53 to time drivers between Rand and Palatine roads and they then relay the information to troopers who pull over the spotted motorists.
I have called the State Police to complain and they just say it is only for a few hours and they are sorry for the disturbance.
What is really disturbing though is how much does it cost to own this plane, maintain it, fuel it, pay the pilot, storage costs, insurance, etc. versus how much revenue they bring in from speeding tickets?
Besides being an annoyance is it really worth the cost and aren't there cheaper methods to give out speeding tickets?
