Youth gets probation on arson charge

A 17-year-old from Buffalo Grove was sentenced to 24 months probation Thursday for setting a fire in the sporting goods section of a Wheeling Walmart store.

Aaron Gutierrez, of the 400 block of Greg Lane, was also ordered to play $446.73 restitution for damages resulting from the incident which occurred about 9:30 p.m. Dec. 16 in the store located in the 1400 block of Lake Cook Road.

Gutierrez, who has no criminal background, admitted to police that he used a starter device sold at the store to ignite the fire at a time he knew customers were in the store, authorities said.
