ECC seeking ideas for facility location:Elgin Community College is now seeking proposals to determine the location of its new Regional Public Safety Training facilities. The college sent request for proposals June 8 to 33 municipalities within the community college district. The project, part of the college's facilities master plan, is funded with $15 million of the $178 million in bonds approved by voters in April 2009 and will offer space to accommodate first responders' increasing training demands. Firefighters will learn and update lifesaving rescue techniques at a burn tower and police will conduct training exercises for homeland security preparedness and support. The facilities also will become the new home of the college's truck driving and emergency medical training programs - which will relocate from the main campus once completed. No private developers will be allowed to submit proposals; developers will have to work directly with a municipality to be considered. ECC will accept proposals through Aug. 2, and the board expects to select a proposal this fall. Construction is anticipated to begin in spring 2011 and be finished by summer 2012.Pancakes for PADS:PADS of Elgin will host "Eat Your Heart Out 2!" a pancake breakfast and bake sale, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, June 27, at the Douglas L.
