All political offices in the state legislature should have term limits
We need to set a term limitation for all political offices in the state legislature. House members should be able to have four two-year terms only. Senators should be allowed two, 4-year terms.
Legislative posts should not become a career thing because legislation can become too self serving. We the voters need a process in which powerful members are kept from getting control of the House or Senate the way Madigan has done in the House. This is not in the best interest of the people.
To achieve this may require the collection of signatures and addresses of people from all parts of the state. This program has been accomplished in California, so there is a precedent in that state. They use a proposition which requests a change in the constitution.
There is far too much control in legislation through the lobbyists in all phases of state and national government. We as voters have almost no control over who gets money to run everything in our state government and federal government also. Our state government is almost entirely bought and paid for by various special interests. This is a shocking thing to have to say, but this is the way it is.
But lobbying is a mess that will have to wait for another time. We need to establish term limits and to do this we have to elect as many Republican state officers as possible to allow this to be done. The Madigan Democrats will fight this tooth and nail. The state badly needs a man like Bill Brady to be our next governor. Somehow we must make the state's needs something that Madigan must respect.
