The Melvins play double door

Grunge prototypesWhen Nirvana broke open the alternative rock scene back in the early 1990s, they and a lot of the bands that followed started name-dropping the Melvins. The Washington group specialized in slow, heavy and crunch rock 'n' roll, a mix of Black Flag and Black Sabbath. The Melvins soon landed a (short-lived) major-label deal of their own, and they continue to make music this very day.
