Ham radio operators to show off skills at Sugar Grove event

Local "hams" will join with thousands of amateur radio operators who will show off their emergency capabilities Saturday, June 26, and Sunday, June 27. The annual Field Day is the climax of the Amateur Radio Week sponsored by the American Radio Relay League, the national association for amateur radio.

Its slogan, "When All Else Fails, Ham Radio Works," is more than just words to the hams as they prove they can send messages in many forms without the use of phone systems, Internet or any other infrastructure that can be compromised in a crisis.

The Fox River Radio League will demonstrate amateur radio from 1 to 6 p.m. Saturday, June 26, and 9 a.m. and noon Sunday, June 27, at the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge, 42W635 Kedeka Road, Sugar Grove.
