Grant High School principal resigns suddenly
Grant High School officials are in the hunt for a new principal after Pat Bentancur resigned suddenly on Tuesday.
District 124 Superintendent John Benedetti said Bentancur's resignation officially takes affect on June 30. Bentancur is on vacation for the rest of the month, however.
Benedetti said he could not comment on the reason for the resignation, saying the district does not discuss personnel issues.
"The fact of the matter is (Bentancur) is no longer the principal of District 124 and it is my responsibility to begin the search for another quality candidate," he said.
Bentancur was named principal at Grant High School in 2008, taking over for retiring Principal Marilyn Howell.
Before working at Grant, he was an associate principal and athletic director at Grayslake Central High School and a graduate of University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and Roosevelt University. He could not be reached for comment Wednesday.
Benedetti said a search for a new principal has already begun, but could not comment on how long it is expected to take.
He added the district is in the process of sending out letters to parents to inform them of the change.
