Alabama man gets 5 years for Lake Co. burglaries
An Alabama man was sentenced to five years in prison Wednesday after pleading guilty to a pair of Lake County burglaries.
Jason Hudgins, 29, is also wanted for burglaries in several other states and for escaping from prison in Alabama on March 10.
Assistant State's Attorney Steven Derue said Lincolnshire police responded to a burglar alarm from a business in the 400 block of N. Milwaukee Avenue at 3:19 a.m. on March 14.
They discovered a door to the business had been pried open and a cash drawer was missing.
Highland Park police made a similar discovery at a business at Green Bay Road and Park Avenue earlier that morning, and Derue said security cameras at both locations showed the same Dodge Avenger leaving both scenes.
Police also linked the car to a pair of burglaries in downstate Montgomery County on March 13, Derue said.
Franklin, Wis. police spotted the car March 19 and took Hudgins, of Auburn, Ala., into custody.
A second suspect, Andrew Evans, 34, of Fultondale, Ala., drove away with the car but was caught March 29 in Indianapolis.
Derue said the pair have been charged with multiple burglaries in Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana and Missouri during the past few months.
Evans remains in custody in Indiana, Derue said.
