Gurnee police searching for suspect in abduction from mall parking lot

Gurnee Police officials are still hunting for a man who allegedly abducted, robbed, and sexually assaulted a woman a little over one week ago as she was leaving Gurnee Mills.

Cmdr. Jay Patrick said the victim was walking to her car at about 9:20 p.m. on June 6 when she was approached by an unknown man who implied he had a gun. She was forced into her car, which was parked in Lot F of Gurnee Mills, on Grand Avenue.

"He had something wrapped in a plastic bag and implied he had a gun to her," Patrick said.

She was instructed to drive the man to an automated teller machine in Grayslake, where she was forced to remove $40 from her bank account, Patrick said. She was then told to drive west on Route 120 to Route 47, then south toward Campton Hills in Kane County.

Once near Campton Hills, Patrick said, the woman was instructed to pull over in a church parking lot, where she was sexually assaulted.

Following the assault, the man instructed the victim to drive to a convenience store in Forest Park, where she was released.

"This is clearly an isolated incident, not a pattern," Patrick said. "We do not believe he is a local person. We are following all leads coming our way to bring this person in."

Patrick said the man is in his late 30s to early 40s. He stands between 5 feet, 8 inches to 5 feet, 10 inches tall, and weighs about 180 pounds with a medium build.

The man had blond or brown hair, in a short, crew cut hairstyle, and wore a goatee.

He was last seen wearing black baggy shorts, a white T-shirt, white socks and black shoes.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Gurnee Police Department at (847) 599-7000.
