Hawks celebration goes astray for Naperville dad, son
A Naperville father and son didn't make it to the Blackhawks rally in Chicago Friday after their own celebration with an assault rifle landed them in jail, authorities said.
Police were called to 4836 Sebastian Court on the city's southwest side about 12:40 a.m. Thursday for a report of a person in the backyard with a gun.
Mark W. Steinbrecher, 54, and Mark S. Steinbrecher, 20, told police they had discharged their AR-15, 22-caliber rifle in celebration of the Blackhawks' Stanley Cup victory, police said.
Sgt. John Westlove did not know how many shots were fired or in what direction. He said there were no injuries or damage reported.
The Steinbrechers each have been charged with reckless discharge of a firearm, a Class 4 felony. The younger Steinbrecher also was charged with illegal consumption of alcohol by a minor, a Class A misdemeanor.
The two were transported to the Will County Detention Facility and appeared in court Friday. Bond was set at $7,500 each. They will need to pay 10 percent to be released. Their next court date is July 2.
