iPods not welcome:Antique phonograph and music box enthusiasts from around the globe will converge on the village of Union June 12 and 13 for the 35th annual Phonograph and Music Box Show held at Donley's Wild West Town. The event started in 1975 as a gathering of a few collectors and has grown into the largest show and sale of its kind, drawing dealers and enthusiasts from as far away as Belgium, Korea, Japan and Australia. The show offers a variety of machines priced from around $250 for a hand cranked disc phonograph to rare coin-operated music boxes that sell for more than $10,000. It is also the place to find scarce repair parts, cylinder and disc records, old radios, roller organs, advertising, and books about the hobby. The show is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 12 and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 13. Admission is $8 and is good for both days. Keith Farnham will host a town-hall meeting with Carpentersville Village President Ed Ritter at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 16, at Carpentersville village hall, 1200 LW Besinger Drive. Farnham will discuss legislation that passed during the spring session and Ritter will provide updates on issues in Carpentersville.
