Illini golfer makes U.S. Open field

CHAMPAIGN -- Less than a week after he won an NCAA title University of Illinois golfer Scott Langley has now qualified for the U.S. Open.

Langley won the sectional qualifier for the open Monday at the Country Club of St. Albans in St. Albans, Mo., near St. Louis. He shot an 8-under-par 132 over two rounds.

The U.S. Open starts June 17 Pebble Beach Golf Links in California.

The junior won the NCAA individual title last Thursday. He had rounds of 68, 68 and 70 on the par 72 course in Ooltewah, Tenn. It is the first national golf title won by an Illini golfer.
