Will County to launch foreclosure mediation plan
A new Will County program will offer mediation to homeowners who are facing foreclosure and their lenders.
State Supreme Court Justice Thomas Kilbride announced the program this week.
He says it's aimed at keeping families in their homes and preventing more homes from becoming abandoned.
Mediators will decide if homeowners are eligible for loan modifications or if they're willing to surrender their property.
Under rules approved by the Illinois Supreme Court, any complaint for residential foreclosure in Will County would be scheduled for a mandatory pre-mediation conference within 60 days.
Mediators are either retired judges or attorneys with experience in the mortgage foreclosure field.
The program is expected to begin next month.
