McDonald's offering $3 for 'Shrek' drinking glasses
McDonald's announced that beginning today customers can receive $3 refunds for "Shrek" drinking glasses.
The glasses, that sold for $1.99 with a meal purchase and $2.49 without, were recalled last week because of reports they were tainted with cadmium.
The Oak Brook-based company said that customers can fill out a refund slip and return the drinking classes to any McDonald's eatery. Previous McDonald's promotional glassware and Happy Meal toys were not involved in the recall.
The 16-ounce glasses featuring characters from "Shrek Forever After" were recalled June 4 in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. The designs on the glasses contained cadmium that's typically used in making batteries, metal coatings and plastic.
McDonald's said it's important to know that the commission has said the glassware is not toxic. There have been no confirmed cases of illness.
The glasses, manufactured in the U.S. by ARC International, came in four designs to promote "Shrek Forever After," the fourth film in the series from DreamWorks Animation SKG Inc. and Viacom Inc.'s Paramount Pictures.
