Chicago man gets probation in DUI-related crash with police squad
A 40-year-old Chicago man was sentenced to 18 months probation after pleading guilty to an aggravated driving under the influence charge filed after he crashed his vehicle into a Rosemont Police squad car last March.
Porfirio De La Luz, of the 4900 block of Whipple Street, also was ordered to perform 100 hours community service as part of a plea agreement.
The Rosemont police officer was returning to his vehicle following a traffic stop in the 10800 block of Higgins Road when De La Luz ran the front of his Nissan Altima into the squad car, prosecutors said. The defendant's blood-alcohol content measured .182, more than twice the legal limit, prosecutors said.
The officer later found an open case of beer in the back seat of his vehicle, authorities said.
