Memorial Day is a time for veterans

Today was my first time visiting the Memorial Day ceremonies in EGV. It was a nice crowd with lovely people. Seeing veterans, hearing patriotic music, the placing of the wreaths, the playing of taps, etc. All of this is very touching and generated more than a few tears from my eyes.

I was disappointed to see it turn when the politicians started their speeches. Those of us that took the time to attend and pay respects didn't need reminders of why we were there.

Taking it a step further, I would guess most of us there have been touched by the military in some way and have our own personal reasons for attending.

A Memorial Day ceremony is a day of remembrance and giving thanks to those who forged our paths to the freedoms we enjoy, it is not a campaign trail stop.

I would have loved to hear stories from veterans or to possibly have had a "meet and greet" with veterans that might have been willing to answer questions or tell stories.

I'm glad that I attended, it was very meaningful to me. I hope that perhaps next year it may be geared a little more toward our veterans.
