Teen charged with hurling vomit-filled condoms at security guard

A 19-year-old North Central College freshman is accused of luring a campus security officer to a downtown Naperville parking garage and pelting him with vomit-filled condoms.

Tyler J. Wilfley is charged with battery and disorderly conduct in connection with the incident that Naperville police said occurred about 2 a.m. May 28. The security officer told police he was responding to a call from a female student who was requesting an escort back to the campus from the parking deck near Chicago Avenue and Washington Street.

Police said the security officer did not see the female student when he arrived. When he got out of his vehicle to look around for the woman, at least two vomit-filled condoms were thrown at him, police said. The contents of the condoms struck the officer's vehicle and got on the officer's clothes, police said.

Sgt. Gregg Bell said investigators traced the number of the phone the female student used back to a male North Central College student, who implicated Wilfley, who comes from Downs, a town about five miles southeast of Bloomington.

Wilfley's next scheduled court date is July 6 at the DuPage County courthouse in Wheaton.

This isn't Wilfley's first run-in with the law since arriving on campus this school year. He pleaded guilty in December 2009 to consumption of alcohol by a minor. He was cited Oct. 3 at a campus apartment by Naperville police. According to court records, his blood-alcohol content at the time of his arrest was .141. Minors can be cited with any alcohol content in their system. A driver must have a blood-alcohol content below .08 in order avoid prosecution for drunken driving.

According to the college's website, Wilfley is a member of the college's wrestling team who notched an 8-4 record with one pin in the 165-pound weight class this year.

North Central spokesman Ted Slowik said Wilfley also faces a disciplinary hearing for "violating the college's conduct policies." Slowik said the hearing hasn't been scheduled as the "prank gone bad" remains under investigation by campus officials.

Slowik wouldn't elaborate on the type of discipline Wilfley faces from a college "judiciary panel" made up of the dean, students and faculty members.

"It's a serious matter when a safety officer is lured into such a setting and that's why Naperville police were contacted," Slowik said.
