Marmion's leadership camp geared to young teens
Marmion Academy's LEAD (Leadership Education And Development) program is hosting its sixth "Make It Happen" Summer Leadership Camp (for boys and girls) from 1 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, June 15 and Wednesday, June 16 on the Marmion campus at 1000 Butterfield Road in Aurora. To register, contact LEAD program director Vince Bellafiore at vbellafiore@marmion.org or at (630) 897-6936, ext. 224. Registration forms are available at www.marmion.org/academy/lead.html.
The camp is designed to develop the leadership and communication skills of students in seventh to ninth grades to prepare them to be leaders in the high school environment. The camp fee is $40 per person. Space is limited and the registration deadline is Friday, June 11.
The "Make It Happen" Summer Leadership Camp will use Stephen Covey's "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens" as a basis for the camp. The curriculum will consist of an exploration of the themes of the book through short, dynamic presentations given by student leaders within Marmion's LEAD program and group activities that reinforce those themes in a hands-on, interactive way. The camp's student co-directors, Rich Parilla of Batavia, Connor Valaik of Naperville and Jeff Winkle of Aurora, will be assisted by students from both Marmion Academy and Rosary High School.
The LEAD program is a four-year program at Marmion designed to educate students for and about leadership. Its mission is to provide an educational foundation of practical leadership skills based on Christian values and ethics with a goal to become educated and accomplished in the field of leadership while instilling a commitment to lifelong learning for the mutual benefit of students and the community.
