Kearns, Talbot lead Indians past White Sox
This was going to be the homestand in which the White sox finally righted their sinking ship and got back into contention.
Instead, it's been another stretch of continued shoddy play, and the Sox dropped to 1-4 at U.S. Cellular Field following Saturday night's 3-1 loss to the Indians.
Now a season-high 9 games under .500, the White Sox (23-32) look like a team that deserves to be detonated.
The lone question appears to be: how soon will general manager Kenny Williams start the rebuilding job?
"We came off of a great road trip and then come back and lose the series to Texas and (Cleveland)," starting pitcher Jake Peavy said after allowing 2 runs in 7 innings and taking the loss. "That's frustrating for us to do, especially to do at home in front of our fans. I'm not speaking on anything we don't all know. It has to turn and quickly before we dig outselves too big of a hole to come back. We already got our work cut out for us and we understand that."
Does Peavy expect Williams to start making changes?
"You know, I can't get into that," he said. "I don't know. It's Kenny's call. You know, certainly I'm one of the guys, if he did something, that something may be done with. I don't know. That's the GM's job and I won't ever get into that. He can do as he pleases."
Peavy said the White Sox are still like a family and no fingers are being pointed. At the same time, all of the losing is taking a heavy toll.
"We're in a tough predicament right now," Paul Konerko said. "There's been a lot of rock bottoms this year and you try to put a smile on your face and come tomorrow and just try to look at tomorrow for what it is - one day, go out and play as hard as you can, try to get one win and go from there. We've done that a lot the last couple of weeks, it just hasn't turned into more than that, unfortunately.
"I don't know. I'm like everybody else around here; you're kind of out of answers. You can keep an eye on it. Are guys hustling? Are guys fighting as hard as they can? And all of that's there. After that I don't know anybody else who has answers. Come forward and let us know."
