Where are the jobs we were promised?
When the stimulus bill was passed we were promised that the unemployment rate would not exceed 8 percent and that the bill would save or create 3.5 million jobs. Neither promise has been fulfilled. Millions of jobs have since been shed and the unemployment rate stands at nearly 10 percent. The President is either unwilling or unable to take the steps necessary to create the jobs vital for our economic recovery.
The only jobs the President's jobs summit task force has created are jobs in the job summit task force. With only 8 percent of the approximate 432 Cabinet members posting private sector job experience, it is little wonder the President's approach to solving private sector problems has been a disaster.
There are four major reasons that jobs have been lost and will not return: high corporate tax rates, high labor costs, high litigation costs and high regulatory compliance costs. The emerging economies of China and India are not encumbered by such costs. Without relieving our business sector of the enormous costs imposed by our government we cannot hope to create viable, sustainable, high-tech jobs that can provide families with a reasonable standard of living. Mr. President, where are the jobs you promised the American people?
