A little advice in a global economy
My name is Global Economy. My friends call me Globie. There are two purposes for this statement. The first is to defend myself against all the blame I get for your nation's economic problems. The second is to offer some advice that could make everyone's economy a lot healthier.
It's absolutely true that I have claimed millions of your manufacturing jobs. It's also true that I supply you with thousands of products at relative bargain prices. Much of what I produce requires huge investments in modern facilities, advanced technologies and extensive work force training. I also make numerous items that are very labor intensive.
Either way, that's a big weight on my shoulders and a heavy burden you get to avoid. Quite frankly, you wouldn't want to make everything yourselves, and you probably couldn't afford it if you did.
Now for the advice. In spite of my great appetite for your jobs, the last thing I want is my best customer saddled with a faltering economy. There's just no percentage in that. I therefore recommend that you reclaim enough jobs to provide a well-paid and aptly benefited work opportunity for every citizen who needs one.
Here's a simple, no-added cost formula for taking back your jobs. Calculate the cost of providing for a person without a job plus the financial gain a job would generate to get the total financial value of a job. Now transform that value into private sector wage subsidies for the production of specific products not widely manufactured in your country. This competitive strategy will let your nation's entrepreneurs quickly restore all the quality jobs you need.
The global jobs I surrender to you today will nourish a mutual prosperity we can all celebrate tomorrow. Who knows, one day you might even call me Globie.
