Roth, Glenbrook North handle Leyden

Senior ace Sammy Roth fired a 1-hitter with 14 strikeouts as No. 3-seeded Glenbrook North blanked No. 2 Leyden 5-0 in the Class 4A Niles North semifinal.

Roth ended the winningest season for Leyden softball as the Eagles finished 30-7 under coach Kurt Schuett.

Eagles sophomore ace Morgan Maize finished at 22-4 after allowing 7 hits and striking out six.

Maize also had the only hit for Leyden, which was the West Suburban Gold Conference champion and Evanston regional champion this season.
