Obama's change must apply to immigration
I read in the Daily Herald that our president is critical of the Arizona statute on immigration control, saying that it might lead to discrimination. Then I heard on the radio that Congressman Mark Kirk, who wants to be our senator, was critical of the new law because immigration is a "foundational, core function" of the federal government.
Have we gone so far off the path of reasonableness that dealing with an illegal situation is considered to be a threat?
Congressman Kirk and President Obama: Please give some attention to the core causes of our problems in this country.
We are a community of people founded by immigrants who braved threatening travel to become citizens of this country. Now, we have a state that has asked the federal bureaucracy to resolve the problems of immigration.
That federal government gets a bold, black "F" for its solution. So Arizona passes a law that simply says (in sixteen pages which I have read online) paraphrased "if you are illegal, you will be sent back to your country" and "if you are an employer who knowingly employs such illegals, you will have your hand slapped the first time, but eventually will be seriously punished."
Why would we, the citizens of this country be so upset by a plan to resolve an illegal issue?
Mr. Kirk, I hope that everyone who hears your wise comments will vote against you this November. You are a problem.
President Obama, we voted for you because you proposed change. Please, we implore you to make decisions that solve problems like this one (immigration) instead of becoming just another boulder in the road to a successful recovery.
