Rolling Meadows man killed in Wisconsin crash
A 69-year-old Rolling Meadows man was killed and his wife injured after a crash in Fond du Lac, Wis., Tuesday.
Vance K. Vorhees died and his wife, Gail W. Vorhees, was injured after the 2004 Chevy Tahoe driven by Gail crossed both lanes of southbound Highway 41, went through a ditch and struck the highway boundary fence and some trees before coming to rest, Wisconsin State Patrol said.
Local news reports said that a metal rod pierced Vance Vorhees' upper body and was cut, but not removed, so he could be taken to an ambulance, officials said.
Gail Voorhees, 70, suffered non-life-threatening injuries, police said. A dog in the vehicle was uninjured and taken to the Humane Society to await pickup from other family members, officials said. Police did not know if seat belts were worn by either Vorhees.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation by the Wisconsin State Patrol.
