Depkes selected as Gurnee honorees:
Longtime politician Robert Depke and his wife, George Anne, have been selected as this year's Gurnee Days honorees. They'll be feted at a testimonial dinner Aug. 12 and then lead the Gurnee Days Parade three days later. Robert Depke was Warren Township supervisor from 1961 to 1997. He also was elected to the Lake County Board while leading township government. George Anne Depke worked on many Lake County, state and national elections as a committeeman and volunteer. She was a Republican National Convention delegate for two presidential campaigns. In addition, she ran 20 political campaigns for her husband. The Depkes live in the Victorian Village subdivision in Gurnee.
KidFest at Greenbelt:
KidsFest is set for 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, June 6 at Greenbelt Cultural Center, 1215 Green Bay Road, North Chicago. This free event features entertainment, games and prizes, including face-painting, a giant slide, moonwalks, wagon rides, basketball, a Dinoland for kids 3 and under, DJ music, arts and crafts, and dancing. A clown, a stilt-walker and Randy the Raccoon will entertain throughout the day. Kids can win prizes by playing a variety of games or earn a free Explorers Kit by visiting the nature stations. Applications for the 2010 Miss Mundelein pageants are available at village hall, 440 E. Hawley St. Completed forms must be returned with a $10 entry fee by 4 p.m. June 15. The three pageants, for girls and young women of various age ranges, are scheduled for June 28-30 at Mundelein High School.
MainStreet Libertyville golf outing:
MainStreet Libertyville's 5th annual golf outing is scheduled for Monday, June 28, at Bonnie Brook Golf Course, Waukegan. Tickets are $99 before June 14 and $115 after. The fee includes 18 holes of golf, cart, box lunch, open bar cocktails, hors d'oeuvres and carving stations for dinner.
