Pingree Grove bike rally:

Girl Scout Troop 644 in Pingree Grove will hold a bicycle safety rally from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 5, in the parking lot at Cambridge Lakes Charter School. There will be bike safety checks with Main Street Bicycle Shop, rules of the road information, obstacle courses, bike registration with the police department and a community ride at 3:45 p.m. Also, bring an old or used bike. The scouts will collect them, fix them up and donate them to the Boys and Girls Club of Dundee and Elgin. If you can't make it, but would still like to donate a bike, call (847) 977-1544 to arrange a pickup.

Can you serve?

The Village of Carpentersville is seeking residents interested in filling a position on the village's Board of Fire and Police Commissioners. The term expires May 1, 2013. The board consists of three members appointed by the village president with the consent of the village board. The board examines and appoints eligible police and fire officers to available positions. To be considered, submit a letter of interest to Ed Ritter, village president, 1200 LW Besinger Drive, Carpentersville 60110, no later than June 22.

Canoe race registration

The 49th annual Mid-American Canoe and Kayak Race is accepting registrations for the June 6 event on the Fox River. A 10-mile race will begin at 9 a.m. from Mount St. Park Park in downtown St. Charles and a 6-mile race at 10:30 a.m. from the VFW in Batavia, just south of the downtown. Football/cheerleading signup
