Flood alert issued after heavy rains

A flash flood warning is in effect until noon for northern Illinois after heavy overnight storms deposited up to 3 inches of rain, officials said Wednesday morning.

Heavy rain, accompanied by frequent lightning, moved out of the area at about 7 a.m., said officials from the National Weather Service this morning.

Officials said rain and scattered storms are possible through the day Wednesday, though it's anticipated the sun will shine throughout the afternoon before more rain moves in tonight. The temperatures is expected to hit the mid-70s.

Standing water remains visible on the roadways throughout Cook, McHenry, DuPage and Lake counties. People are asked to use caution when driving this morning.

While O'Hare International Airport only recorded a quarter-inch overnight, Oak Park recorded 2.4 inches of rain, while Burr Ridge and Aurora recorded just over 2 inches of rain.
