Elk Grove Village student's death still unresolved

Authorities are still investigating the death of Syed "Zain" Naqi, the 22-year-old student from Elk Grove Village who went missing May 1 and whose car and body were pulled three weeks later from Chicago's Belmont Harbor.

Chicago Police investigators are reluctant to release any information surrounding Naqi's drowning. Police have not ruled the death a suicide, as the autopsy conducted by the Cook County medical examiner's office was inconclusive as to the cause of death, Chicago police spokesman Rob Perez said Tuesday.

Authorities initially could not identify the body found inside Naqi's green Honda Civic because it was partially decomposed.

It may have been submerged in the harbor, in the Lincoln Park neighborhood east of Lake Shore Drive, anywhere from a few days to a few weeks, officials have said.

Naqi's body was identified after authorities matched dental records.

Naqi, a student at Roosevelt University in Chicago, was last seen Saturday, May 1 when he went out with friends to the Rebel Bar and Grille on North Clark Street in Chicago. Family members reported him missing on Monday, May 3.
