Barrington LWV at risk without help

In 2010, the national League of Women Voters celebrated 90 years of service to democracy, a remarkable record of effort on behalf of our civil society.

Here in Barrington, the League has been a community presence for over 70 years and has organized countless programs to educate our citizens, hosted candidate forums, held voter registration drives and published our annual Public Officials Directory.

For all the success we have enjoyed, our League is now on the edge of closure for want of active participation. The stalwart workers who have served for years on our board are ready to step back but no one has stepped forward to take their places.

In the absence of eight new volunteers to take over essential board positions, this community is likely to see it League chapter quietly fade out of existence by the end of the year. Our community will be the poorer for this loss.
