Kirk says he'll fix any incorrect military claims
U.S. Rep. Mark Kirk says he takes full responsibility for inaccurately charactarizing a military award, and will correct other discrepancies if any are found.
Kirk and his staff have long said he was named the U.S. Navy's intelligence officer of the year. Kirk says his official biography should have said the Navy's Rufus Taylor Intelligence Unit of the Year award was given to a unit he led in 1999 -- not to him individually.
On Monday, Kirk also lashed out at "Democratic operatives" for spending money scrutinizing his records. He also noted that his opponent in the race for President Obama's old Senate seat, Illinois Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias, doesn't have a military record.
Giannoulias has called Kirk a "typical Washington politician" who can't be trusted.
