Obama in Chicago means Air Force can't do Carpentersville flyover

The President of the United States has rained on Carpentersville's Memorial Day Parade.

Organizers of the Healing Fields exhibit in Carpenter Park had planned for an Air Force flyover during the parade on Sunday.

However, Secret Service agents this week canceled the show because of a temporary flight restriction due to President Barack Obama's visit to Chicago for the holiday weekend.

The no-fly zone's radius extends about 30 nautical miles from O'Hare International Airport.

"It is frustrating because a lot of people were looking forward to it," said Jerry Christopherson, chairman of the Dundee Township Patriot Committee. "It would have been something spectacular, but I understand that it's for the protection of the president and his family."

The Healing Field is a tribute to the 1,748 veterans classified as missing in action or prisoners of war.

Christopherson said the parade and other events scheduled on Sunday are due to go ahead as planned. Community and youth groups will join Vietnam War veterans on the march from 2 E. Main St. to Carpenter Park at Lord Avenue.

"Unfortunately, the family cannot go any farther east," Christopherson quipped. "When they move, the no-fly zone moves."
