Schaumburg swept by Kansas City at home
The first series at home did not go the way the Flyers (1-6) wanted with a sweep at the hands of the Kansas City T-Bones (6-1).
With Thursday's 3-1 loss, Schaumburg has now dropped the six games in a row.
The Flyers pitching staff did all it could to keep the game close on Thursday. Starter Cody Evans went 5 innings and gave up only 3 runs on 7 hits in his outing. The relief effort for Schaumburg was even better. Tom Lyons and Ben Reeser both pitched two innings and did not allow a run.
The Flyers collected seven hits, but came up short. Schaumburg scored just one run in the game in bottom of the eighth off of a Mike Mooney single, which scored Chris Schultz. Mooney, Joe Nowicki, and Brandon Newton had two hits apiece for the Flyers.
Schaumburg had a chance to do some damage in the ninth inning with runners on first and third and one out. But a hard hit ball by Travis Brown up the middle was gloved by Jimmy Mojica and the Kansas City shortstop easily turned the double play to end the game.
The Flyers continue their homestand Friday against the Gary Southshore Railcats. First pitch scheduled for 6:45 p.m., with a Fireworks Night celebration after the game.
