Sox' offense starting to show some life
CLEVELAND - It's a work in progress, but it looks like the White Sox' offense is gradually emerging from a season-long slump.
The Sox were bottled up by Indians starter Mitch Talbot for much of Tuesday night's 7-3 loss at Progressive Field, but they batted .314 in their previous five games and were batting .317 with runners in scoring position in their previous 14.
White Sox hitting coach Greg Walker is both pleased and upset by the resurrection.
"Some guys are starting to get their focus back and actually playing against the other team instead of themselves," Walker said. "We've been fighting ourselves from the get-go, from the second or third day of the season. The first time we scuffled I started seeing bad looks in guys' eyes.
"They're tough guys and they're starting to fight their way out of it. They're getting better. But it's the same problem we've been having for the last few years. They just have to remember that no one's going to feel sorry for you in this game."
As for struggling in the cold of April and the first few weeks of May, Walker's not buying it.
"I think any baseball team hits better in warmer weather," he said. "The ball carries better; the game is supposed to be played in warm weather.
"But that's no excuse because we know that coming into the season, and teams have done quite well against us at times, too, in cold weather and we've put up nothing. So I don't view that as an excuse."
Fake Buehrles: Mark Buehrle is angry that nine different accounts under his name have appeared on Facebook.
One in particular is using a photo of Buehrle and his wife and making outrageous posts about drug use and other illicit activities.
"I heard from a couple of my aunts who were wondering what the deal was," Buehrle said.
Andruw Jones has had similar problems with fraudulent posts on Facebook.
Family matters: After Thursday night's game at Tampa Bay, White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen is planning on driving to his off-season home in Miami.
Guillen's youngest son Ozney is graduating from Monsignor Pace High School on Friday morning.
Ozzie Guillen is going to fly back from the ceremony and hopes to be at Tropicana Field during the game.
