Still no ID on body in Waukegan fire
Officials will wait for DNA test results before identifying the person involved in a Waukegan fire earlier this week.
Lake County Coroner Dr. Richard Keller said the body discovered in the blaze at about 6:15 a.m. is burned beyond recognition, adding the coroner's office could not locate a dentist who treated the victim prior to the fire Monday.
He said DNA samples have been sent out and they should receive the identity in about a week.
The man actually died from a self-inflicted gun shot inside the home, Keller said, not the early morning fire on the 400 block of Julian Street.
Firefighters battling the blaze were not able to access the house for about two hours after the fire was discovered due to the intense heat of the blaze and because 200 rounds of ammunition located inside the home were exploding.
The fire was brought under control at about 8:30 a.m.
Fitzgerald said officials from the fire department as well as the Illinois State Fire Marshall's Office determined the blaze was arson Monday afternoon.
