Elgin man charged with sexually abusing 3 children

An Elgin man is scheduled to appear in court Thursday on charges he sexually abused three children younger than 13, authorities said.

Jose L. Jaramillo, 58, of the 300 block of North Jackson Street, faces seven counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse and one count each of child exploitation and predatory criminal sexual assault. If convicted of the most serious offense, a Class X felony, he could be sentenced to up to 30 years in prison.

Prosecutors said the abuse began nine years ago, and involved three children known to Jaramillo. Authorities would not release their ages or genders.

The state's attorney's office said Jaramillo was taken in for questioning Friday by the county's Child Advocacy Center and was formally charged Saturday. He appears to have no prior criminal record in Kane County.

Jaramillo was behind held Tuesday in the county jail on a $500,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear Thursday in front of Judge T. Jordan Gallagher.
