District 62 honors volunteers
Nine School District 62 volunteers were awarded Distinguished Volunteer Awards during a Japanese Tea Ceremony and Volunteer Recognition Reception. The awards program, which is in its third year, recognizes nominees for their dedication and commitment to the students and staff of the district.
"The volunteers that were nominated by our staff have 'gone the extra mile' on behalf of the schools where they volunteer and our school district," announced Mindy Ward, director of Community Relations. "They represent the hundreds of volunteers that give their time and talents in classrooms, offices and schools to help our students achieve."
Dr. Jane L. Westerhold, superintendent of schools presented awards to Steven Adams, board of education Member; Marge Fairhead and Sharon Miller, Cumberland Elementary School; Michelle Garnett, Terrace Elementary School; Lisa Haring, Chippewa Middle School; Pragna Mehta, Iroquois Community School; Dottie Pinto, North Elementary School; Mary Pontikes, Orchard Place Elementary School; and Amy Ure, Central Elementary School.
The highlight of the evening was naming Amy Ure the 2010 District 62 Community Relations Ambassador of the Year.
