Missing Elk Grove student's car pulled from Belmont Harbor

A car pulled from Chicago's Belmont Harbor on Sunday belonged to a missing college student from Elk Grove Village, his family said.

Now authorities must determine if the body found inside the green Honda Civic is Syed "Zain" Naqi.

The body has not yet been identified, the Cook County medical examiners office said. It was not immediately clear if the body was male or female, but it was an adult, the office said.

The body was partially decomposed and may have been in the harbor, which is in the Lincoln Park neighborhood east of Lake Shore Drive, a few days or even a few weeks, officials said. An autopsy will be conducted today.

Naqi's uncle, Mazhar Tabrezi, confirmed the car was his nephew's. He declined to comment further.

Naqi last was seen May 1 when he went out with friends to the Rebel Bar and Grille on North Clark Street in Chicago. A student at Roosevelt University in Chicago, Naqi, 22, was reported missing May 3.

Naqi's car also had been missing since the May 1 outing.

Elk Grove Village and Chicago police were investigating Sunday.
