Enough already with property taxes

I know many share my frustration, anger and a certain sense of persecution and helplessness upon opening the latest tax bill from Kane County. Thirty dollars a day! Intellectually, I acknowledge the justifications for not reducing the property tax rate. But the rate of increase is beyond belief.

The home's "fair cash value" shown on my tax bill is at least 25-30 percent higher than even the listing price of any home on the market in our neighborhood. The real value of my home has declined significantly over the past 24 months, yet my tax bill has increased far beyond any reasonable calculation of cost of living, inflation or reality.

When - if ever - will the property tax reflect reality? This should be the front lines of the "Taxed Enough Already" protests. Is this not taxation without representation? How and where are property taxpayers represented? What recourse do we have? How can we fight back? Why isn't local government held to the same reality as the rest of the world? When revenue decreases, cuts need to be made. The property taxing bodies act as if they don't have to abide by this reality. Enough already!
