Quinn encourages support for military family fund

Gov. Pat Quinn is encouraging people to support the Illinois Military Family Relief Fund.

The governor will hold a news conference about the program on Sunday afternoon in Chicago.

He'll be joined by the program's manager, members of the military and their families.

Quinn helped establish the relief fund in 2003.

It provides grants to families of reservists and National Guard members who are called to active duty. It's served as the model for programs in more than 20 other states.

As of 2004, taxpayers can make donations to the fund through a voluntary check off on Illinois individual income tax forms.
