Aurora Township toddler struck by truck
A 3-year-old boy was critically injured Saturday morning when he was run over by a truck's trailer in Aurora Township.
Kane County sheriff's police said the accident happened when the child, identified as Fabian Selgado, ran into the driver's side door of a moving 1996 GMC pickup at 11:05 a.m., possibly while chasing a ball, near his home on the 1100 block of Rural Street.
After striking the vehicle, police said, the toddler fell into the road and was run over by the truck's trailer.
He was taken to Mercy Medical Center in Aurora in critical condition and later flown to Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge.
Police said the driver of the westbound truck, a 36-year-old man from Serena, tried to stop as the boy ran into the road.
"It does not appear drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash," the sheriff's office said in a news release. "No arrests have been made and no tickets have been issued."
The accident remained under investigation.
