Let those who build assume the risk
Little is being said in the mainstream media, whether televised, radio or print, about the Homeowner's Defense Act H.R. 2555. What is this bill, you ask?
It is a proposal in committee with the House of Representatives to add $200 billion on the backs of taxpayers to subsidize homeowner insurance rates for millionaires who choose to build their exotic homes on the vulnerable coastlines of the Carolinas, Florida, Gulf Coast and California.
The government need not step in to back the loans with our hardworking dollars.
I am all for helping those in need when Mother Nature's fury strikes. However, to subsidize a risk for those who can afford to build these lavish estates in a risk-prone area, only to turn around and ask Uncle Sam to subsidize that risk by spreading the cost of that risk to the rest of the country, is absolutely ridiculous.
I encourage all of you to research H.R. 2555, develop an opinion and then to call and write your congressional representative and let them know your thoughts.
If you are like me, you will conclude the homeowners in heartland America do not need to be a risk pool for those who choose to live in risk-prone areas.
