Arrest made in Kaneville area burglaries

A 22-year-old Maple Park man was arrested Friday in connection with a recent spate of burglaries and vehicle thefts in the Kaneville area, police said.

Dennis P. Walsh of the 49W900 block of Peterson Road was charged with three counts of unlawful possession of a stolen motor vehicle, three counts of unlawful defacement of a vehicle ID number, seven counts of theft, and one count of criminal damage to property, authorities said.

The Kane County Sheriff's Department said it recovered evidence implicating Walsh in a series of crimes late last month in Kaneville while carrying out a search warrant at his residence on May 7.

The investigation included assistance from a variety of sources, including school resource officers and members of the sheriff's Citizen Police Academy, police said.

"It is because of the partnerships between the community and sheriff's personnel that allowed for the case to progress as fast as it did," according to a news release.

Walsh was being held Friday in the Kane County jail on a $75,000 bond. His next court date wasn't immediately available.

Court records show Walsh was convicted of fleeing or attempting to elude sheriff's police in 2008, and he is charged with marijuana possession and attempting to foil or defeat a drug screen in two other pending cases in Kane County.
