12 arrested in DuPage Co. drug bust

Twelve people are facing drug charges following a law enforcement crackdown on a massive marijuana distribution ring.

DuPage County State's Attorney Joe Birkett announced the charges Friday following the arrests of the 12 individuals. The investigation was conducted by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency, DuPage Metropolitan Enforcement Group and several other agencies, he said. Birkett said 26-year-old Dorian Luzaj was the group's ringleader and responsible for distribution of more than 600 pounds of marijuana each month throughout the Chicago area.

The drugs came from California and Canada, Birkett said. More than $1 million, 11 vehicles and five weapons were seized as a result of the investigation. Luzaj is being held at the DuPage County jail in Wheaton in lieu of $2.5 million bond, according to the sheriff's website.
